One evening an Elder Chippewa told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two"wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"
The Elder Chippewa simply replied, "The one you feed."

Mr. Bruning and I have since become friends because we listened to one another. All too often we judge, unfairly, those we don't know based on a difference in opinion. Angry words spoken can become difficult obstacles to overcome. We politely exchanged ideas and spoke of our differences and found that those differences were really similarities. Polite discussion broke down a wall and now we laugh instead.
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to express those thoughts. I hope that others give it a try.
