Sault Tribe Foolery Strikes Again..

It appears that members who voted in the recent election to separate the chairman and CEO positions may have wasted their time, ink and stamps.

This is the second time in recent years that the Sault Tribe Board of Directors have decided to bypass the Secretarial election results and go with what they wanted in the first place. Maybe they didn't expect it to pass so now some of the directors feel they must make the choice for the members who thought they had spoken through their vote.

Is anyone surprised that member votes were again overturned? We have an election coming up. Will the results be tossed again? Have the choices already been made for you?

Sault Ste. Marie, Mi...They're happy to report to you on their trips to the nation and the state's capitals. They're reporting to you on the nice weather and encouraging you to take the time to smell the flowers. They're doing everything they can, they say, to move the tribe forward in a positive direction.

Meanwhile their conniving on how to defeat your collective will. Though the members voted recently in a secretarial election to separate the chair and CEO positions, they haven't decided yet whether or not they will do that. They've cooked up reasons for not doing it, declaring no administrative mechanisms exist for accomplishing that goal.

This is the same board that let director Boushour run in unit one even after the membership voted not to allow it. It's the same board that refused to escrow his wages even though everybody expects he will soon owe the tribe $ 2,600,000.00...and possibly more.

Greektown, a political football: director Bouchour, not up for reelection, eager to blame the previous administration for losing it and whatever else, says come this June its as good as gone. Director Miller, up for reelection, eager to put off a declaration of loss where Greektown is concerned, reports potential partners are out there and the board needs only to connect with them and put forth a proposal, to do something to save it. Director Hoffman, up for reelection, feels the present credit-holders may not get licensed. We still may own the place, however, he's not sure about it. Director Abramson, she attended a meeting of elders in Newberry with director Hoffman, where he talked to them about Greektown. But as for herself, she had no comment..sound familiar.

So...where does that leave the membership? Is there anybody on the board that knows what's going on with Greektown? What about the chairman, who now realizes how the secretarial election makes him even more of a figurehead than he already is, does his position retain enough power for him to still act as a tribal spokesperson?

Does the tribe have a true spokesperson anymore?

Thank you, Charles Forgrave
