Did you know old newspapers make great mulch for the garden? Just dump your decorative mulch on top (which by the way, you will need less of). Also, coffee grounds dumped around outdoor plants helps keep insects away.
Those 24 packs of water are handy but recycle them. Even better, buy a jug with a water filter and purchase refillable containers instead.
Ask for paper instead of plastic but even better, purchase the reuseable bags. The hard part is remembering to bring them with you so just get in the habit of storing them in your vehicle.
As far as those old medicines, I put them in a plastic baggie and duct tape it closed before disposing and some clinics and pharmacies take back the brown plastic bottles the meds come in or just recycle them with your other plastics.
Most communities have at least one weekend a year where you can drop off paint containers for disposal and most recycling centers take styrofoam but it goes into it's own special bin. "Did you Recycle Anything Today?": I recycled a cat food can and a plastic bottle. It is amazing how much we recycle.I am disapointed that our county doesn't yet recycle plastic bags, styrofoam containers, batteries from cell phones and hearing aids, flash lights etc. What about all the plastic caps on all the bottles and containers? Paint and other hazeradous products? They tell us not to flush unused medications as it gets into the water supply, but if you wrap it as suggested it still goes in the land fill, so what have you accomplished!
