NO TIME FOR SLACKERS

Nothing has had more of an impact on the lives of everyone more than the price of gas . From just getting to work to that tormenting stop at the grocery store, it is no longer a pinch but a vise grip that has hold of our wallets but last week the U.S. Congress left Washington without addressing solutions to the energy crisis or gas prices

Business owners have had to make up the difference in fuel and energy costs by laying off workers. As a result, more state and federal dollars are needed to support those who have lost their jobs due to rising energy costs.

Unemployment benefits are stretched to the point that they can barely provide the newly unemployed with a means of survival. Many families will have to substitute healthy eating for the mac without cheese just to be able to put food on the table.

Winter is not that far away for those of us in the North so there is no time for slackers in Congress who should be on the ball renewing the clean energy tax credits that support solar and wind industries scheduled to expire at the end of this year. This will mean more jobs lost but renewal of the credits will not only provide new jobs but will push fuel prices down by decreasing demand for fossil fuels.

Political leaders need to commit themselves to our energy and climate crisis so that we can generate 100% of our electricity from clean sources within the next 10 years. Take the time to contact your Congressman and ask them to move it up a notch or two or you will find someone else to vote for.

Our right to make changes through referendum is the one voice we have left....use it.
