ANONYMOUS SAYS VIC MATSON NOT FIRED

Anonymous just wrote to say that Vic Matson Jr. did not get
fired. Thanks for adding the Jr part so we are clear that
it isn't Sr. that we are talking about.

Don't know who Anonymous is but he/she did not explain the
whereabouts of Matson if there is a whereabouts to be
explained.

It sure seems as if "Anonymous" is the newest popular name.
I wonder if some actress or rock star named their kid
'Anonymous' and that is why it seems that so many have decided
to take that name.

I wonder if Anonymous knows how Paquin came into possession
of certain items of tribal property or how his relative can
get paid for a job that doesn't exist. I heard those things
as well.

Other Anonymous responders reported numerous details that
I passed along to the appropriate persons (who will remain
anonymous too). Shortly afterwards, Paquin was suspended
for some misappropriation issues and having in his possession
some unauthorized tribal property. Must of had help somewhere
along the line...wonder who that could be???

Still other anonymous persons made claims about Paquin
related to his treatment of women and claimed that he
has a history of bad behavior's against women but given
his positionas Chief of Police, he held all the cards.

Someone seeing, knowing, reporting,...even anonymously,
solves crimes....ever heard of "CrimeStoppers"? Sometimes
investigations take place when the above occurs and some-
times the accused is suspended during an investigation
to protect the evidence....and the innocent, assuming,
of course, that there is an actual investigation and not
that the suspension occurred purely as a political
favor or because of retaliation.

Occasionally the accused is found innocent of any wrong-
doing and is actually found to be a victim of a conspiracy
or maybe even of a simple misunderstanding of procedure.

Whatever the case, we can only pray that justice prevails
and that we always listen to both sides of the story.
There Is Life Beyond the Sault Tribe

Anonymous had this to say about "Repowering America"......
"Sell that idea to the rich indians. Do you have any idea how
much your ideas cost ? People here are trying to put food in
their mouths and a roof over their heads.
You are out of touch with the people."

My response.....Which people?
Turning down lights, turning off the air conditioner, walking
instead of driving, winterizing your living space, asking for
paper instead of plastic or bringing along your own, carpolling,
comsuming less junk food (carrots and celery are healthier and
cheaper than chips) are all things that everyone can do to save
money, energy and fuel. It doesn't cost a penny to do any of the
above but will save you money and Mother Earth at the same time.

It is not just Sault Tribe members and employees that have had
some serious financial difficulties to overcome and I am the last
person that can be accused of being out of touch with those who
are struggling.

I didn't come from wealth, I came from a large family struggling
to make ends meet. I raised 2 kids by myself at times working
2 jobs because their deadbeat dad had more important things to do
with his money...like drinking and partying.

Being a victim of abuse as well as facing the difficulties of
raising a family in a world where being a woman is a disadvantage
has made me an advocate for others who face similar challenges.

Because a few labor law-breaking, civil rights violating, goof offs
tried to ruin me for my involvement in tribal politics as well as
my choice of friends, I lost almost everything, including my ability
to be financially independent as I had been for years.

I know exactly what those who have lost their jobs are going through,
the devastation of not knowing what tomorrow will bring, the dis-
appointment of not being able to provide your kids with a few new
clothing items to start school with not to mention how you will be
able to keep a roof over their heads or heat the place.

For some, the hurt pride will make it difficult to have to give up
the luxury of going out for lunch or taking the kids out for ice cream
and even simply renting a movie. They will have to deal with contracts
on their cell phones that they can no longer afford or cutting the
internet service from hi-speed to dial-up.

I am not making light of such things because it is a reality that will
be tough to deal with because of heartless corporations who could care
less about you other than they want their money from cancellation fees.
Don'texpect them to understand because dollar signs are more important
than people.

Some of those who have lost their jobs are sitting on their sofa too
devastated to even begin the process of filing for unemployment because
they cannot function for five minutes without breaking down in tears.
They may know they need to see a professional for their depression but
can't keep it together long enough to make the appointment let alone
sit in a waiting room. Some may even be pondering suicide because the
future seems so bleak.

Then there are those that could care less if they ever have a job and
are quite content to live off the system in whatever way they can.
Some will complain about not getting a dime from the Sault Tribe while
puffing on their cigarettes, cracking a beer, watching pay t.v. and
being pissed because they have to decide whether or not to order out
for pizza or pay the electric bill.

So how can those that are accustomed to living responsibly, survive?
Accept the challenge and cook from scratch, use the leftovers, get
creative and make a trip to Goodwill a lesson in recyling by purchasing
used clothing and other necessities. Live one day at a time and setting
priorities will help get you through it.

Trade with family, friends and neighbors for goods, services and rides.
If you have lost your job and are finally able to snap out of the funk,
trade house cleaning services, yard work or babysitting with those who
have what you need. Arrange a weekend trade-off event. Get rid of one
of the cars even if you have to let it go back to the bank...get back
to basics. Volunteer to help others, especially the elderly because it
will come back to you.

Start over by going back to school on the tuition waiver and financial
aid...if I can, then you can. Survive...you can do it. Most of all,
remember that it was not you that caused your job loss but a board and
several key employees who were assigned to look out for the tribes assets
in order for you to keep that job or receive that medical and dental care
but failed miserably.

And while you are facing these challenges, what is the Sault Tribe Board
of Directors doing to fix the mess they made when they let the tribe go
down the tubes in exchange for favors and political power? Are they
taking a salary cut to save someone else's job or to feed the elderly?

Why does a tribal member need a degree to perform simple data entry or
other jobs when the chairman or director position doesn't require any
sort of education or degree?

Why does the Constitution of the Sault Tribe protect only those elected
positions but not the tribal members?

I guess that explains why the Sault Tribe is where it is today. This
isn't a political statement but one about human interests based on fact
and the history is there to prove it.

Who am I out of touch with? Only those who live high on the hog on
someone else's money and I intend to stay out of touch with those types
because I am better then they are and so are you.

Vic Matson Fired!?

A week or so ago it was heard that Vic Matson's desk and office was being emptied. Today the rumors are out that Matson has been fired. No argument there that this was long overdue.
It also seems that a BIA representative has taken up residence while he continues his investigation into Fred Paquin's little honesty issue.

Fast Freddie couldn't have done what he did without some inside help. Someone signed the necessary documents to enable Freddie to do what he did. If Matson was not fired or suspended for knowingly participating in a scheme to defraud the tribe then he should be fired for his failure to manage the tribe's finances.

Was Matson stupid, careless or did he know where the tribe was headed? Of course he knew....but did he cover it up and how long has he been covering it and for whom? An investigation could take several months, maybe longer.

I think this could get very interesting but, for the time being, it seems that both Paquin and Matson have been put out to pasture. Is Paquin still getting paid while on suspension or has he been fired too? If Matson has been fired or suspended, did he benefit financially with a contract payout or continuation of pay? Maybe someday the tribal members will know the truth.

Together, We Can Repower America

No Time To Ask....Demand!!!

We must rebuild our economy, lower fuel costs, free ourselves from our addiction to oil, and save ourselves from the climate crisis. To do this, we need to demand that we Repower America with 100% clean electricity within 10 years. Meeting this ambitious goal would create millions of new jobs, lead to lower energy costs for families and help America lead the fight against global warming.

NO TIME FOR SLACKERS

Nothing has had more of an impact on the lives of everyone more than the price of gas . From just getting to work to that tormenting stop at the grocery store, it is no longer a pinch but a vise grip that has hold of our wallets but last week the U.S. Congress left Washington without addressing solutions to the energy crisis or gas prices

Business owners have had to make up the difference in fuel and energy costs by laying off workers. As a result, more state and federal dollars are needed to support those who have lost their jobs due to rising energy costs.

Unemployment benefits are stretched to the point that they can barely provide the newly unemployed with a means of survival. Many families will have to substitute healthy eating for the mac without cheese just to be able to put food on the table.

Winter is not that far away for those of us in the North so there is no time for slackers in Congress who should be on the ball renewing the clean energy tax credits that support solar and wind industries scheduled to expire at the end of this year. This will mean more jobs lost but renewal of the credits will not only provide new jobs but will push fuel prices down by decreasing demand for fossil fuels.

Political leaders need to commit themselves to our energy and climate crisis so that we can generate 100% of our electricity from clean sources within the next 10 years. Take the time to contact your Congressman and ask them to move it up a notch or two or you will find someone else to vote for.

STARVE AN ELDER...FEED A DIRECTOR

While the directors still have their fat food budget and overcompensated and unearned salaries, there are starving Elders in our tribe.

One such Elder is a 92 year old lady who is very frail and in constant pain from her arthritis. She is a tiny little thing who still has every wit she ever possessed. I could probably pick her up and carry her around if necessary but she is independent and not ready to give in to her pain and aging.

As a member of the Sault Tribe one would think that the Elders...especially the Eldest of the Elders would receive just a little consideration and a little scrap of dignity and respect from the Meals on Wheels program that is there to see that they get a good meal every day. Any person with a soul and a good heart would not want to see an ederly 92 year old tiny lady who cannot fend for herself starve to death.

It is a good thing that this lady has a loving and caring niece and nephew, the last of her living relatives, to look out for her or I hate to say that she would starve to death since she cannot prepare her own food let alone go out and shop for herself.

Do you want to know what the Sault Tribe Meals on Wheels brought her for lunch the other day?
A piece of bologna and cheese was all, it seems, that they could afford to feed her. Today they did not even show up!!!

So while our overpaid directors are wallowing in their fat salaries and living high on the hog, our Elders are left to starve. How many like this 92 year old Elder were waiting for their Sault Tribe provided meal today...and yesterday and maybe tomorrow that will not arrive? How many of those who rely on the Sault Tribe Meals on Wheels for their food do not have anyone else to call?
How many do not have access to a phone to call and say "I'm starving, please bring food."

If things are so bad that the sick and elderly are being left to starve then why the hell are we still paying $67,000.00 plus benefits to directors that would cut off the elders food before they gave up a lousy penny of their fat paychecks? I have never been more disgusted with the Sault Tribe than I am now. Check on your elders and disabled ASAP because the Sault Tribe has failed them more than ever before by letting them starve and not notifying their families that they are not providing that one meal a day.
Our right to make changes through referendum is the one voice we have left....use it.
