Little Belief, or Faith In...

Sault Ste. Marie, Mi...Members missed the debate on the recent purchase of land in Detroit. That's because there wasn't any debate. By the time they heard about the deal it was done.

Their right of referendum on whether or not the acquisition should go forward had been trampled by the board.

Now the price paid for the land is questioned...was it $180,000.00 or $400,000.00? Does anybody know for sure...is there a tribal official out there who has the courage to say something about it publicly? And, if not, why not?

Is the Sault Tribe ever going to get beyond this cloak and dagger style of government...where the major decisions, financial and otherwise, are made in its back rooms. What is it with board members...that they will go so far as to trample the tribe's constitution to keep these kinds of decisions secret?

Yes, nowadays the smoke is gone from the back rooms...Michigan law has seen to that. But the seemliness of them making the tribe's major financial decisions there...which are not theirs alone to make...is still there.

It brings the word rogue to mind. Their behavior is best described by it, because they refuse to respect the constitution. They just go ahead and do as they very well please...knowing they can get away with it...behaving like a bunch of rogue politicians.

After all, the financial decisions that have come out of those back rooms over the years...have left little reason for the membership to believe that any good decisions will ever come out of them. There have been thirty-some business failures and $80,000,000.00 plus lost because of them.

Instead of reasons to have faith in them, there are all kinds of expensive reasons for the members to have no faith at all.

Thank you, Charles Forgrave

So where is the candidate for change, DJ Malloy? Is she waiting for those say nothing unit reports in the paper to tell us what is going on ? She is a major letdown so far. Seems she has fell right into the same old Board mold the day she got elected. Nothing but excuses.

If you have questions, why not just ask Director Malloy instead of expecting her to read your mind and answer your questions. I don't bother asking some directors or the chairman directly because I have no expectations of getting the truth from them.

Why doesn't the anonymous poster that expresses negativity towards one new director reveal their identity and approach DJ Malloy to answer questions face to face. I did...and I got the answers I was looking for. I have spoken to Denise Chase and she will also openly answer legitimate questions.

Sorry but it does not require reading anyone's mind to know the issues that members want to know about. Malloy should be at the forefront of disseminating this information, not sitting back and waiting to be asked. Sounds like you have fallen into the trap of thinking we work for the Board rather than the other way around.

I have asked DJ Malloy several questions and always received a direct answer or if she was not able to answer she followed up without the usual political hogwash of, "this is why that happened", "they had to do it that way because", "this is the process and we have no influence in the process". The major let down will continue to be Joe McCoy and his cronies.

Again, you are putting the responsibility on the members to seek out a Board member to get answers to questions that many have concerns about, rather than expecting the Board member, in this case Malloy, to be at the forefront of the information. Why doesn't she have a website or blog to disseminate information about this purchase and other issues. What progress has she made about lowering the Chairman's salary, how about those televised meetings ? Please do not say that she needs more time. If that is the case then her pay should be held until she starts producing. I supported her, I voted for her. But part of the reason we are in the messes we are in is because we sit back and do not push these Board members to do their jobs ! She is getting a full time salary and should be actively and visibly earning it. What has she done other than attend a few meetings ?

Director Malloy is just getting her feet wet. She has some big shoes to fill with DJ Hoffman gone and Pine the snake on Board now. Director Hoffman was a valuable asset.

i asked her why she does not go to all brd meetings and workshops she says she can not let her board seat interfere with her regular job

Stop making excuses for Malloy ! Her unit report says nothing that could not be stated in a tribal news briefs section of the paper. Nothing at all about what she is working on, how many of her campaign promises she has initiated, no report on the land purchase......She did apologize to the elders for missing their annual cookout because she had a family obligation. She is not taking her board position seriously and has become a huge disappointment. If she is going to only work part time then she needs to cut her board salary.

reason we have to stay anonymous unlike you lynn some of us have to worry about our job's or family member jobs all director chases children were fired after the election just because director chase does not always go along with the norm on the BOD (membership does not need to know attitude) as i have said before Darcy Chase was a much better team leader than Tony Goetze was or ever will be She was straight and to the point OMG cant have that that may step on the wrong toes instead we will get rid of her and give the Mckerchies the reigns on the shores casino real good move Tony do you happen to know how many days a year Cheryl and Jaimie work Cheryl missed 18 days her first month she was there (there are only twenty work days in a month)one thing i can say Darcy WAS ALWAYS AT WORK OR A DAMN GOOD REASON FOR NOT BEING THERE and always let her staff know where she was and how to get ahold of her The BOD is stupid to beleive one word that ever comes out of Tony Goetzes mouth he freely talks at the bar about how he runs things not The BOD and what ever happened to the possible sexual harrasment charges that were going to filed against Tony somebody do some threatining again same old BOD just different year

Well the McKerchies are all closely related to Cathy Abramson! And the family is very close to Bernard and to Princess Pine...so do not expect changes soon. Abramson, the Queen of Nepotism, needs to be removed from the Board, along with Bernard and Pine needs to put in her place. Then maybe some improvements can be made. But first and foremost Malloy needs to step up to the plate and do the job we elected her to do instead of playing nicey nice with the Board and giving us nothing but lip service.

Our right to make changes through referendum is the one voice we have left....use it.
