Even though Elder benefits have been cut, Sault Tribe seems to have the funds, or investors, for another casino. Millions were lost in Greektown because of bad management and, likely, a lot of 'skimming' from the top. The proof is in the profits realized once the tribe was out of the picture. Can we trust the Sault Tribe leadership to make the right decisions as well as honest decisions? Who is at the helm and are all the facts on the table and when will they be?
Real estate deals are touchy and often held in confidence to prevent the greedy from upping the price of land when they discover where the money is coming from. That should never be the case when it comes to the profits. Who is going to profit? After what happened to Greektown, members should be asking this question of their elected representative.
The best way to prove that the profits will support member services is to include them with each casino built. Include a full service health and community center and a Midjims in the plan. Include jobs and housing to qualified members as part of the initial plan instead of a promise that never sees the light of day.
The tribe is more than a corporate entity. It is a community made up of real people and the person you elected to act on your behalf needs to be reminded of that. Call your representative and demand they do their job which is to act in the best interest of the tribe and that means YOU! No more casinos unless they can prove that the purpose and profits is to place member services at the top of the list.

If you remove the politicians from the day to day operation of the casinos, you would eliminate many of the opportunities for them to misappropriate, abscond or steal. Also, due to the corrupt nature of the administration, it would be necessary to separate the politicians from the hiring and firing. Nepotism and otherwise unfair hiring practices could be kept to a minimum.
All accounting procedures and services should be handled by an outside "national" firm.
HOW WOULD YOU ACCOMPLISH THIS ?
Hire an independent management company.
What would the Board and Chairman do ?
They can act as oversight. They can shape the policies regarding revenue and native preference.
They just can't touch the money unless it comes before the Board and is voted on.
Because we have never been able to trust the "elected", it will be a great relief to know that the people that are managing the casinos are held to real laws and real penalties. The cost will pale in comparison to the possible losses by an inept and corrupt Board.
The membership and their elected could then focus on how the revenues are distributed.
Once several of the sitting Board members and Chairman are removed through the election process, new rules governing any casino project in the future will be enacted. Any relationship that exists between current elected and the contractor will cease.
What would the board and the chairman do???Maybe get out in the real world and see how that goes for them.
I think it would be good for them to be on the receiving end of nothing like so many members have been.Maybe have to struggle to survive, maybe be told sorry we can't help you, maybe have to choose between heat and eat and then give them $565 FOR THE WHOLE YEAR!! I would be curious to know how they would react.Might be a good learning experience for them.
Please update your blog and keep in touch...consider that a direct order.
