When Bush made the decision to seek revenge on terrorists who made the mistake of hijacking our planes to kill thousands and place fear in the hearts of souls of all those living in the U.S., I was fine with that.
When it was thought that Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction, I worried what they would do with them next. There were no WMD found. It was a mistake.
When Saddam Hussein was found, my thoughts were to turn him over to his own people, whom he also terrorized, confident that they would see to it that he would not be returned as leader of that country.
For the past several years that spanned the Bush presidency and into the Obama presidency, there has been disagreement between most Republicans and Democrats over our presence in Iraq. Some Republicans wanted the troops to stay while feeding billions of our tax dollars into a country that is not ours. Some Democrats wanted the war to end and bring our troops back home to save the tax dollars and the troops. Many more are torn over this decision for various reasons.
We did some good in that part of the world. It's my opinion that the recent takeovers of horrific dictatorships in the Middle East are the result of the influence and closer contact with civilized nations...like the U.S. After eight years, those who wanted the tools to democracy, have them and it's now up to them to put those tools to good use. How long does it take to teach an adult right from wrong...they either get it or they don't. But, that’s just my opinion….one of those rights we are guaranteed.
For decades, long before the bombing of the Twin Towers, peaceful Muslim communities have popped up throughout the U.S., just as the Italians, Japanese, Germans, Amish, Polish, and other nationalities and religions have done. I was just a kid in elementary school when I first heard the term that America is the 'melting pot of the world' because of all the nationalities and religions that have made the United States their home. It wasn't a bad thing but an opportunity to learn more about different cultures.
I also learned of the slavery of humans who were beaten and kidnapped openly from their own home and country to be sold to lazy, rich people in the U.S., who treated them like they were not created by the same God they professed to believe in. Let's not forget that this land was invaded by the ancestors of those who now call America home. Millions of Indians were slaughtered...their lands stolen...their villages burned...their women raped...their children murdered.. Those murderers are the ancestors of most Americans....including mine since I am not 100% Native American. Face it...that's the reality.
But eventually, the civilized people of the U.S. created laws that gave us our freedoms, some of which state that we are allowed the freedom of religion in this country. Blacks and women were given the right to vote. Nowhere in our Bill of Rights or Constitution does it say we can do the opposite of what it states just because we feel like it.
Why is that those who think we left Iraq too soon also think Muslims don't belong in the U.S.? Does it make sense to want to destroy and occupy a country that is not ours while telling people from that country that they cannot live peacefully in ours? For the life of me, I can't understand that.
Occupy America and open your hearts to all who want to live here for the same reasons you do.
Welcome home to those who are glad to be back. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, etc….etc….etc…

Please read the article in the Soo Evening News website about the 2% contributions. There is a battle waging on the blog. Many derogatory comments but only one or two people trying to tell the truth.
I read the article and here is the response I wrote...
After reading all the comments, it is clear there are a lot of misinformed people out there. I won't get into the argument of who deserves what but....
1. You're a racist if you are complaining about the Muslims, Mexicans and Indians but not the Italians, Germans, Polish, French and English who also migrated to this country...illegally or not.
2. Unlike every other race in the Sault, if a Sault Tribe member needs assistance, they are told to go to the tribe for help.
3. Only a very, very small percentage of Sault Tribe members live in tribal housing. Would more of us live in tribal housing if there were more housing available? Probably.
4. If you are opposed to the benefits tribal members receive, can you swear to it on your child's/mothers life that you would turn it down yourself, if you qualified. If all those with French ancestors were offered the same, would those French people turn it down? That question applies to any race or nationality.
4. Don't try to tell me the Sault citizens, employers, store owners, etc...didn't mistreat Indians. I have worked since I was very young and have witnessed Indians that looked too Indian have their job applications thrown in the trash. I was told by those who didn't know I was Indian (because I have the coloring of my English mother) that Indians are nothing but drunks and thieves and I have heard this for years. Now the shoe is on the other foot when it comes to working for the tribe. Makes you angry, doesn't it.
5. People of all colors and nationalities sue when something was taken from them illegally. Oh gee, I think I will declare war on my neighbor and take everything they own and maybe I'll even slaughter them while I'm at it. War makes it okay according to one person's comment.
6. I've heard the same stupid comments that I have heard for years. Some still insist that individual tribal members don't pay federal tax. If you have to make that sh*t up than your argument is senseless. We pay federal tax. Most of us pay state tax since we don't all live in the tribal tax agreement area.
7. Thank God I had free health care while raising my kids when their deadbeat dad got away without paying the court ordered child support and health insurance. P.S. He was French....not Indian.
8. Indians didn't choose to live in the sh* t hole that Shunk road once was. That was the reservation most were placed on....round 'em up and shove in the dump. Just read the history.
9. Some smart Indians finally got an education and forced the enforcement of the treaties that were written by the non-Indians. Who would have thought that those dumb Indians, who couldn't write words or speak the English language, would ever figure out how to do that.
10. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Season Greetings. Take whichever makes you happiest and ignore the rest.
And then...I signed my name to it.
Thank you, Lynne. Merry Christmas.
You're welcome and I must thank you for the encouragement. It's about time I started writing again....I just needed a little push. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a truly Happy new year.
Well-spoken as usual, Lynne. I certainly miss your commentaries ...they seem to reinforce my thoughts and feelings. Hopefully you will continue to remind us all of the injustices that exist everywhere particularly within this tribe.
Muslim is a religion, not a race, you might want to have someone proof your writing, for errors.
Civilized nations do not arrest people without cause and torture them, just like the U.S. did in the Middle East. Civilized nations provide for the health and security of the less fortunate amoung them, just like the U.S. Civilized nations allow its people to travel without fear of them or their families being strip searched, just like the U.S.
Civilized nations have great leaders. Can you name one great leader in the U.S. in the past fifty years? Just one (besides Bernerd of course).
Yes. I omitted the word 'Bigot'. It should have read "You're a racist and a bigot if you etc..." Is that better?
Bernerd? you are kidding right? The only thing he led was the tribe into corruption and the funds to his pockets.
Bernerd must be a great leader, he keeps coming back like an incurable SDT.
Hi Lynne.
Great post. I'm with you 100 percent concerning your list of 10 (11) points.

Don't any of you have actual names? So damn afraid to even say who you are on any given subject.
Those to come to this Blog Site to comment don't even show your freedom by stating your name.
Now on this subject. I had no problem with Bush actually going after the responsible party who waged the 9-11 attack on us, but see that's the thing HE DIDN'T.
Osama Bin Laden was solely the responsible one who planned, plotted and carried these attacks out. Saddam Hussein although a madman who slaughtered his own people had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11. So we should of never been there to begin with.
The reality is those people have been slaughtering their own people for centuries before our troops were sent there and continued saying they'd do the same long after we left.
We lost 4,802 troops KIA. Thousands more maimed both physically and emotionally for life. And we accomplished shit there.
This country can't even take care of its own through health insurance for those without, schools, etc... here. Most of the middle east who have came here in droves since 9-11 live off our Welfare system. I know I stand behind them in Supermarket's here in the Metro/Detroit area and they don't just have one basket filled beyond the brim but two and three then out comes the food-stamp card.
That is what outrages me. I could care less if they worship a bedbug but for Gods sake WORK FOR A LIVING.
My Grandparents ITALIANS came to this country in 1909 to work and work they did until they died. They did not sit on their ass and collect welfare. These Arab's can't even speak English but they sure as hell learned the words, WELFARE & FOOD STAMP/BRIDGE CARD fast.
And if they have food stamps, they also have medicaid so they can see a doctor but I can't. And I was born in Detroit in 1957.
Our American troops died for their freedom to come to this country and collect welfare and I have a gigantic problem with that.
For those imbeciles who proclaim we shouldn't of left Iraq yet? All I can say is there's one wall with over 58,000 names on it for a mistake that also should of never happened.
How many would you like?
Saddam Hussein was spilling the blood of his own people not ours. That feat was accomplished by Bush and Bush alone.
Those troops followed their orders with dignity, they fought with dignity and they died with it. I feel for those who never made it home and their families as equally I feel for the injured.
But Iraq should of never happened period. Nobody there attacked us or was the responsible party. And George W. Bush and Dick Cheney knew it.
Worship whomever or whatever you want, just work and get the hell off our welfare system.

Although I agree with much of Longshot's comments, here are some statistics:
Pasted from a government site:
With regard to AFDC (food stamps/welfare)the figures are:
White 38.8%
Black 39.8
Hispanic 15.7
Asian 2.4
other 3.3
