Post-it Stables / Did the Sault Tribe Buy It?

Sault Ste. Marie, Mi...Did the Sault Tribe buy Post-it Stables (a horse racetrack) and the 320 acres it sits on for $180,000.00, plus back taxes of $1,460,000.00, or did it buy seven acres near the racetrack for the smaller figure.
Those questions were batted around yesterday by Huron Township and Wayne County officials. They concluded, that there has either been sloppy clerical work...as the sale recorded in the registers of deeds office is for the whole racetrack...or there has been some top secret communications going on between Post-it Stables and the Sault Tribe.

Seeking an answer to that question, The News Herald, providing news services to the lower river, called both the Wayne County Register of Deeds office and the Sault Tribe and neither had responded as of late yesterday.

Township officials say Post-it Stables also owes $150,000.00 for police protection and is in arrears with its water bill. Although no land use plans have been filed todate by the Sault Tribe, township officials speculate that they want to build a casino.

The answer is out there somewhere. Perhaps a board member can help you with it.

Thank you, Charles Forgrave

In a communication to my unit rep on Aug 26th I asked
"wondering if you can explain why the membership was not told about the recent purchase of land near the Pinnacle Race Course. Where did the funds come from? Who are the key players in this purchase? I can only hope this is not another Boushor deal and that he is the only one that benefits. We have never been shown the facts and figures of why Greektown failed. Does anyone know why and if so what was learned that would lead us to believe that the current investment of more tribal funds is sound?"

I did get a response telling me that there will be a press release in the upcoming tribal newspaper and if I would provide my phone number the rep would try to respond to my other concerns.

I am still waiting for that phone call, but in the mean time thanks for all the information that is always provided in a timely manner by Lynn Weaver, Charles Forgave and Nathan Wright on this topic as well as other concerns...you all would make much better Unit Reps than most we already have.

Why did greektown fail? Because a small town tribe tried to move into the big city without a clue as to how things work in the real world of business. The powers that be smelled the fish coming as soon as they crossed the bridge. And here we are trying to play monopoly again near the airport. What a blind, disfunctional bunch we are. I see a lot of finger point, but nobody is going to say "it was me". In my opinion, we as a tribe need to override the board and hire a third party forensic accounting firm to "follow the money" so to speak and get the skeletons out of our closet once and for all. This will not be recieved well and will probably take court action to enforce, but i think it necessary at this point.

An excellent read, thank you. It's getting harder and harder to sift by way of all of the garbage online nowadays.

Our right to make changes through referendum is the one voice we have left....use it.
